An In-Depth Look at Brain Function
In the newly developing science of neural mapping, researchers use a specially designed cap, which is placed on an individual's head, and connected to complex software which captures the electrical impulses emitted by the brain. This now commonly used strategy, the electroencephalogram, or EEG, shows brain wave patterns.
"I think the brain is essentially a computer and consciousness is like a computer program. It will cease to run when the computer is turned off. Theoretically, it could be re-created on a neural network, but that would be very difficult, as it would require all one's memories." Stephen Hawking
This technology allows scientists to both isolate different brain functionality and to evaluate how the brain responds to different external stimuli. As it regards the transhumanist agenda, brain functionality and response is of critical importance because the ultimate goal of transhumanist philosophy is to utilize the gains achieved by extropians to upload the human brain to super computers thereby realizing The Singularity, or the disembodied state of human existence into cybernetic immortality. In sum, neural mapping will allow the transhumanist enterprise to more fully understand the scientific and biological needs required to hypothetically upload the human brain to complex computer networks.
