Genetic Mapping and Manipulation

Genomics is a field of biological inquiry concerned with manipulating deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) molecules in living organisms, especially in human beings. Specifically, scientists in the field work to map and edit genomic structures as well as establish the functioning and evolution of DNA.

"(Decoding the human genome sequence) is the most significant undertaking that we have mounted so far in an organized way in all of science. I believe that reading our blueprints, cataloging our own instruction book, will be judged by history as more significant than even splitting the atom or going to the moon." Francis S. Collins

Moreover, genomics aspires, firstly, to quantify all genes and their corresponding alleles within the human genome in order to understand enzymatic-enabled protein synthesis within eukaryotic cells. Secondly, genomics seeks to ascertain how proteins work to constitute organs and tissues and how cells communicate through chemical reactions. Thirdly, genomics maps the DNA sequence of nitrogen bases and their accompanying nucleotides to determine the exact genetic codes of human beings and other organisms. Genomics is of paramount importance to the transhumanist agenda because transhumanists hope to use the discoveries of genomic science to both remove genetic mistakes and coding for disease from human beings as well as accentuate those physical traits that they deem desirable.
